Sanitation

Sunset Lake leases have individual sanitation systems.  It is the responsibility of each lessee to maintain their system to State,

Macoupin County and Sunset Lake standards.

Living on a lake that returns 1 million+ gallons of water from our sanitation systems each month to the lake requires the utmost diligence to keep our lake clean for swimming, boating and fishing.

One ongoing program is the chlorination of our effluent from our septic systems.  Annual and spot inspections are made as needed to keep our systems in good shape.

Another ongoing program is lake water testing.  This program is carried out by Water Quality and Conservation Chairman.

Docks

Docks require a permit to build.  Docks are to be kept in good, safe condition, and built so that the lake is not unnecessarily obstructed from your neighbor's view.

Shoreline

Maintenance of our shoreline prevents erosion from filling in the lake.  Sunset Lake has an ongoing program of rip rapping the shoreline, and regular annual inspections are made to make sure the rip rap is 1 1/2 feet above and below the water level.
