GENERAL INFO

Sunset Lake is located 3 1/2 miles west of  Girard, IL., off of Emmerson Airline.  It is a 173-acre lake that offers excellent fishing, boating, swimming and skiing or tubing.  It is governed by 9 elected Board of Directors, the Superintendent and Corporate Secretary.  The lake dam was built in 1955-1956, and became a private lake in 1963.  The Association leases lots to the membership on 99 year leases.

The monthly meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm.  The Annual Membership Meeting is held the third Thursday in October.  The Board prepares a Budget for the membership to approve, and they vote to accept or change the Budget, which determines the  annual  assessments.

The Association maintains a new Community Center, consisting of the Office and Hanauer Hall, plus a garage located off Emmerson at 30505 East Lake Dr.  Hanauer Hall was dedicated to Robert Hanauer, without whom, there wouldn't be a Community Center.  The membership can reserve the Hall with just a cleaning deposit.

The lake was dredged in 1994 and a Rip Rap Program is on-going to prevent silt from running into the lake.  There is also an on-going Sanitation Program in place to safeguard the health of the lake and the membership who uses it.  The lake is tested at least 3 times a year to ensure that it is safe for all.

75% of the members are full time residents from all over the State of Illinois and a few from outside the State.  Local or not, all are welcome!
